Roses in the rain
Mixed media on board.
62 x 96cm.
Inspired by rainy days in wales looking out at the garden through my windows. This large piece has been several paintings that I was not quite happy with, but luckily they just add to the texture layers underlying the new artwork. Pretty much every paint type I own has gone into this painting, including acrylic, gouache, acrylic gouache, interior paints and gold and silver acyrlics. It has many collaged pieces of different colours giving the petals and thorny rose stems an almost 3D appearance, and the large plant pot features hand made stencils. Despite the range of paints and methods of creating texture and pattern, the composition is simple and the colours are similar and complimentary, giving it a tranquil or peaceful feel.
